1708 Fiberglass Cloth: 17 oz Biaxial 3/4 oz Mat Back
1708 Fiberglass Cloth: 17 oz Biaxial 3/4 oz Mat Back
Fiberglass Biaxial Cloth is a #1708 E-glass Biaxial (+/-45 degree) Cloth with 3/4 oz mat backing. The fiberglass tows are held together by light nylon stitching which do not affect the structural integrety of the cloth.
The flat non-crimped fibers yield reduced print-thru and higher stiffness than other woven fabrics
The mat backing adds extra thickness and makes for a smoother finished product when applied over scratches and dents. This cloth is ideal for repairs, tabbing, and reinforcing.

This is a very heavy mat. You have to work to get full saturation as opposed to the usual fabric. It bridged large voids with a minimal sag.

This is my first time using the 1708. So far I haven't had any problems.

It was interesting that I was asked to review 1708 biaxial fiberglass cloth. I'm not sure what you can say about a standardized cloth used by so many people. I think we found the lay, weave, and weight perfect for our bedding. Though using it for sheets on our bed was problematic as we sleep in the buff, and it seemed mildly itchy, and we looked like porcupines on meth when we woke up every morning. It was a much better material to use as a base layer when making a quilt, though we found it is much too warm to sleep under if it catches on fire. Therefore, we layered it with an Asbestos blanket to ensure a slower burn rate on our bed. We found the emerging cough we have to be bearable when cuddling in our 1708 quilt. If careful, the edges can be sewn closely together; if you must, epoxy works too. It was rather hard to get our son out of bed after epoxying him into bed one night. My one remaining half-thumb up for this product.

This latest batch of Fiberglass cloth is being used to fabricate a "Black Water Tank" in the Head of my 1978 Pearson P35. I've been using this product from TOTAL BOAT for all the refurb projects on my boat. It's a great product .

First time using this product making a custom fan shroud for classic pickup. A couple of layers of this added the required strength allowing me to mount the electric fan in the shroud without the worry of breakage.

This is superior material, thoroughly recommend it. The size I needed was temporarily out of stock a month or two ago, so I ordered some through Amazon that was described the same way - 1708 biaxial fiberglass cloth. But apparently quality varies, and the Amazon stuff was simply awful in comparison with the cloth I've previously bought from Jamestown. I won't make that mistake again.

The fiberglass arrived perfectly rolled and in packaging the protected it from the shipping company. There isn't much more you can ask for when purchasing fiberglass cloth. It worked out perfect for my project.
